“Children have never been very good at listening to their elders, but they have never failed to imitate them.” This quote from James Baldwin points to the need not only to teach children social-emotional skills in the classroom, but for the adults in the system, starting with the school board, to model healthy social-emotional competencies in their everyday interactions with one another and with children. This is not only for the benefit of student well-being.  Research is clear that leaders with strong social-emotional competencies are more effective in leading successful teams to achieve results. In this interactive session, participants will explore six research-based social-emotional competencies for leaders. They will engage in candid reflection and dialog on their own strengths, assumptions, and needs for growth. Participants will leave with resources and strategies they can use immediately to grow their SEL muscle.
