The success of students in the United States depends on their ability to access and use tools for living and working in an increasingly interdependent global environment that includes interaction with Africa. These tools include language and culture training as well as understanding the historical and economic connections that the U.S. has with Africa and other parts of the world. In order to provide this training, teachers in all subject areas particularly, social studies and humanities need to deepen their knowledge base to include global perspectives in their lesson plans. What is the School Boards role in ensuring that teachers/ administrators are equipped to address these issues? Thus, the need for expanding international education and addressing the critical global and intercultural issues our students face and will continue to face in this modern time justifying the American Institute for Resource and Human Development’s (AIRHD) strong involvement in promoting global education in general and African Studies in particular.
